Melbourne’s Slowly Slowly have created intriguing dichotomies with both their sound and lyrical content. Everything is carefully considered, precise and yet still vulnerable. Here is a refreshing seriousness and a commitment to creating original songs. Ben Stewart’s heavy use of metaphor and imagery evokes unique and detailed stories; he eliminates clichés and takes risks with words. Live, Ben emanates an affirming calmness often at odds with the heaviness that permeates through their debut album and into newer material too. Ever present is an engaging believability and genuineness, the result being music to relish at every level.
